A United Nations human rights expert is scheduled to visit Pakistan for the first time to examine the conditions facing people with albinism in the country.
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) announced that the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism will conduct an official country visit to Pakistan from 3 to 12 June 2026. The mandate, established by the UN Human Rights Council, focuses on identifying and addressing discrimination, violence, and exclusion experienced by people with albinism worldwide.
As part of the preparation for this visit, OHCHR has issued a formal call for input. Civil society organisations, people with albinism, community groups, academics, and national institutions are invited to submit written testimony to inform the Expert's findings, according to the announcement.
The visit will allow the Independent Expert to meet directly with government officials, local communities, and individuals with albinism across Pakistan. Observations gathered during the mission will feed into a report presented to the UN Human Rights Council, OHCHR said.
